This No-School Day!

I'm incredibly thankful Evan doesn't have school today.
Yesterday he told me something that happened during lunch that made me never want to send him again.
He came home from school and told me he was hungry. I asked him what he had for lunch and he said, "We had ravioli, but I could just eat the bread."
"Why?"
"Well, I wanted to eat the ravioli but I didn't have a fork"
"Oh, well why didn't you ask a teacher?"
"I did, but she didn't hear me, so I just ate my bread."

I then gave him his entire bucket of Halloween candy and let him eat as much as he wanted.

In the defense of the lunch ladies, the school cafeterias are pretty noisy, and Evan does talk very quietly, and is not at all pushy or aggressive or demanding. If there's something he wants badly enough, he's only willing to ask once or twice for it before giving up.

Aah, cute little Evan. Hopefully he still keeps that sweetness even after learning to ask a little louder...;)

Poor kid. He must have been starving by the time he got home.

Oh poor thing! My son was coming home hungry every day last year (Kindergarten). Finally I went to school at lunchtime and turns out, he didn't know there was all this other food in addition to the main entree that he could get if he wanted it! Nobody ever explained that to him. I was pretty ticked off about that.

I think you need to send Meici to school with him to straighten out those lunch ladies.

That breaks my heart.

When I was in 1st grade we went on a field trip to a zoo. I had money which I used to buy an ice cream sandwich from a machine. Except I was too short to reach the flip-up lid to get the ice cream. I was too embarrassed to ask my teacher, so I just had to leave it there. I was so upset.

Kids! No problem solving skills!

I can totally relate to Evan. Apparently my voice doesn't carry---and you can only ask for something in vain so many times before questioning your worth on the earth:)

Poor Evan. I was always like that as a kid, if I wasn't heard the first time I just didn't ask again and did without. Hopefully next time he'll get to eat his ravioli!

Some kids think they're too cool for school, but Evan is obviously too sweet for school. As he gets older some boy or boys are going to be super lucky to have him for a best friend. Meici is now.
